Brittaney Stetson, LPC-Associate, Supervised by Kelly Guidry, PhD, CSC, LPC-S: Play therapy, chronic illness, veterans and families of veterans

I believe counseling should provide a safe and welcoming environment where clients can express themselves without judgment and feel genuinely heard and understood.

Associate Counselor

My Approach

My approach is compassionate, encouraging, and individualized to meet each client's developmental and emotional needs.

When working with children, I use developmentally appropriate interventions, including play-based approaches, to help them communicate and process experiences in ways that feel natural to them. I also value collaboration with parents and families to help strengthen the skills and support children receive outside of the counseling room.

Whether I am working with a child, family, or individual, my goal is to help clients develop emotional awareness, strengthen coping skills, build resilience, and feel more confident navigating life's challenges.

Areas of Focus

Play Therapy & Children's Counseling
Children often communicate their experiences differently than adults. Through play and other developmentally appropriate approaches, I help children express emotions, process experiences, develop coping skills, strengthen emotional regulation, and build confidence in a safe and supportive environment.

Anxiety & Emotional Regulation
Helping children and individuals better understand difficult emotions, recognize what contributes to anxiety or feeling overwhelmed, and develop practical skills for managing emotions in healthier ways.

Behavioral Concerns
Supporting children and families experiencing behavioral challenges by looking beyond the behavior to better understand the emotions, needs, stressors, or experiences that may be contributing to it.

Family Transitions
Providing support for children and families navigating changes such as separation, divorce, blended families, relocation, school changes, loss, or other transitions that can affect a child's sense of stability and emotional well-being.

Military & Veteran Families
Military life can bring experiences and challenges that are unique to service members and their families. As a member of a military family, I have a personal understanding of this community and enjoy supporting children and families navigating transitions, stress, relationships, and the impact military life can have on the family system.

Chronic Illness
Supporting individuals navigating the emotional impact of chronic illness, including changes in daily life, relationships, identity, independence, stress, and uncertainty. Counseling provides a space to process these experiences while developing coping strategies and resilience.

Creating a safe space for children, families, and individuals to heal and grow.

My passion for counseling began through my work with children of disabled veterans, where I saw the importance of providing children and families with a place where they feel safe, understood, and supported. As a member of a military family myself, I also understand some of the unique experiences, transitions, and challenges that can come with military life.

I am passionate about helping children, individuals, and families recognize their strengths, develop healthy coping skills, and build greater confidence as they navigate life's challenges.

Who I Work With

I work with children ages 4 and older, individuals, and families, with a special interest in supporting children through play-based counseling, military and veteran families, and individuals living with chronic illness.

I also work with clients navigating anxiety, behavioral concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, family transitions, stress, and other challenges affecting their emotional well-being and relationships.
